Tokeena Angus 14th Annual Performance
Tested Bull and Angus-Sired Female Sale
Seneca, SC
Saturday, February 23, 2008
| The Neil
McPhail Family welcomed a full house crowd to their new
on farm sale facility built by Neil, son Daniel with the
help of numerous neighbors and Angus friends. Quite a
remarkable facility and worth the trip to Tokeena to see
this new facility that sets some 300 feet from the
original Tokeena cattle barn that is now listed on the
National Historic Register.
Cattle prices
were steady and a bit down from last year as this area
was really hard hit by the 2007 drought and continues in
an attempt to recover. The bulls were lighter weight
this year due to a change to a forage ration in an
effort to cut feed costs from the previous commodity
based ration in past years. Still the same good genetics
with several calving ease bulls offered. The heifers met
strong acceptance and demand, however, prices were again
a bit under past years. An excellent set of registered
heifers bred to calve in the fall of ’08 sold in groups
of 3 mostly in the $1400 range. Bred commercial heifers
approached the $1000 figure while the open heifers
mostly were in the $750 to $800 area. The bulls mostly
sold for $1400 to $1800. |
