Lebanon, Tennessee
Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM
Sale Manager:  American Angus Hall of Fame
Auctioneer:  Col. Mike Jones

If you wanna get a good seat at Quintin Smith’s, you gotta get there early because he always packs the bleachers and there is good reason as he always sells a top set of Angus females that will suit the Angus industry.  Quintin likes cattle that look good, perform on limited inputs and work in the real world.  He is not a numbers man but knows cattle and knows the ones that will work.  Quintin is always competitive in the show ring and always sells top prospects as well as females that make top brood cows.  The dam of AAR Ten X SA is a prime example of the top females that Quintin has sold through his auctions!  The catalog is packed with sale features on every page.  Show prospects, herd sire prospects, top bred heifers, cow / calf pairs.  This is a must attend auction in the Tennessee area as there will be top genetics from beginning to end.  A big offering of cattle from Craigmore Angus in Canada will again be a feature of this auction.  Craigmore herd sires selling include Craigmore Dambreaker and Craigmore New Day.  Both bulls are proven with many years of breeding still ahead.  Craigmore featured females include Partisover Burgess 746, Craigmre Emblynette 7032, Craigmore Emblynette 812A and Craigmore Primrose 9250.  Quintin’s friend Chuck Lanning has put together a tremendous herd of Angus females and again this year will be bringing a top offering of females to the auction.` Lots 114-133 will be the dispersal of the Flynn Neal Angus herd.  Neal was planning to produce Balancer cattle and most of these females will have Angus calves at side and bred to Gelbvieh bulls.  For more information contact Quintin Smith 615-207-0830, American Angus Hall of Fame 816-532-0811 or Mike Jones 706-884-6592.

Carter Family Angus Bull Sale
Arthur, Nebraska
Monday, February 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM
Owner / Sale Manager: Sam Carter
Sale Consultant: Mike Jones

On Monday, February 8, I will be attending the Sam Carter Family Bull Sale near Arthur, Nebraska as a sale consultant.  Sam is a long-time Angus friend and I look forward to working with him and his family in the marketing of their Angus bulls.  Sam is ahead of the curve in using ABS sire Basin Payweight 1682 in his breeding program and will be selling 11 sons of this popular sire.  1682 has caught the attention of cattlemen across the nation with his low birth, accelerated growth and big $B at 189.45 making him a complete package as well as an outcross for many breeders.  Full sister to 1682 sold at the 2015 NILE Sale for a record price of $210,000!  All bulls have been genomic tested thru the Zoetis i50K program yielding enhanced EPD’s.  Bulls also were scanned via ultrasound and that data will be available sale day.  In talking to Sam, it is really hard to pin him down on any one particular bull as there are different bulls that meet different demands.  Visitors to Carter Family Farms have drawn the same conclusion coming away with a long list of bulls that would suit the most discriminating breeder.  I look forward to my trip to Nebraska for this exciting auction and if I can be of service in your search for a herd bull, please contact me.  Sale book is on line at Angus Journal.  You can order a copy thru this web site or contact Sam Carter 765-669-2762.

MM Cattle Company & Callaway Cattle Company
3rd Annual AffordaBULL Sale
Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12:00 Noon
Carrollton Livestock Barn, Carrollton, Georgia
Sale Manager: American Angus Hall of Fame
Auctioneer: Col. Mike Jones

Performance, Predictability, Phenotype, Profit are the bywords that form the foundation principles this auction is built on. Mike McCravy and John Callaway will be bringing a superior set of fall yearling breeding age bulls from their respective breeding programs offering Angus and SimAngus genetics. Bulls have been developed in large pastures to encourage lots of exercise and have been fed a daily ration designed for a 3 pound per day gain. The bulls will not be fat but presented in excellent breeding condition. There are bulls in the auction designed for different reasons including calving ease, carcass, growth and maternal to produce replacement females. Majority of the bulls are the product of AI being sired by some of the breed’s leading sires like EXAR Upshot, Hoover Dam, GAR Composure, Connealy Confidence, Sitz Upward, W/C United., SDS In Force, Upgrade and other top sires. All bulls have been semen tested by Dr Phillip Wilson and are guaranteed to settle cows. At this printing approximately 50 bred heifers from past customers are consigned due to calve December thru January. Also included is a nice set of purebred Red Angus bred heifers from Mike Smith at Newnan, GA. We always have a big crowd, huge pot of Brunswick stew and great big sharp cheddar hoop cheese for your pleasure. For information contact Mike McCravy 770-328-2047, John Callaway 770-355-2165, Jeremy Haag 816-516-1309 or Mike Jones 706-773-3612.

400 Angus and SimAngus bred commercial heifers will be offered.  Tommy Shrader purchased these heifers from several top commercial herds in North Dakota with the intention of developing, breeding and selling them as bred heifers.  The heifers were synchronized and bred to proven Genex sires SAV Bismarck 5682, Connealy Right Answer 746, PA Full Power 1208 and to TH 122 711 Victor 719T. The 100 Angus heifers bred to Victor 719T were then exposed to three Polled Hereford bulls from Fields Edge Farm including the $9,000 top selling bull at the 2015 SW VA Bull Test Sale.  Balance of the heifers were bred AI then exposed to top low birth bulls from Yon Family Farms, Gretsch Brothers Angus and McCabe Genetics.  Tommy bought the best bulls he could find and paid $7,000 to $10,000 for these bulls.  When Superior Rep Aaron Burke videoed the heifers he said “Tommy, these are the best of the best!  I don’t see heifers like these every day”.  Tommy knows the genetics behind these heifers.  They will be a great investment as they are going to make a terrific set of commercial cows!  Contact Marketing Agent Mike Jones 706-773-3612 for more information and/or brochure.

Yon Family Farms
25th Performance Bull Sale
Ridge Spring, South Carolina
Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Another tremendous auction at the Yon Family Farms with standing room only and furious bidding from beginning to end on the bulls and females offered. Seven cow/calf pairs sold for $7,500 or more and 27 bulls sold for $8,000 or more. On a sad note, Cory Watt, American Junior Angus Association Chairman passed away 2 days before sale day after a 7 year battle with cancer. Cory grew up with the Yon kids and was really one of the family being Drake Yon’s roommate at Clemson. Fellow Junior Angus Board Member Daniel McFarland sang the national anthem and Fellow Board Member Will Fisk gave the invocation. Proceeds of the Lot 1 female were donated to the Cory Watt Scholarship Endowment Fund (thru Angus Foundation) and to the Watt Family. The cow raised $21,000 selling to Express Ranches and to a long list of contributors. If you would like to make a donation to the Endowment, contact Milford Jenkins, President Angus Foundation at the American Angus Association.

Yon Family Farms Bull & Female Sale
Ridge Spring, South Carolina
Saturday, November 1, 2014
Auctioneer: Col. Mike Jones
A bazaar day started out with high winds and pouring rain with temperature in the upper 30’s. By daybreak the temperature dropped to low 30’s and the rain turned to snow. The ground was soon covered and temperature continued to drop. Around 9:00 am we lost power as the snow continued to accumulate. A wreck on I-20 had traffic blocked up and many folks headed to the auction were in traffic gridlock. Nearly a snow whiteout kept everyone out of the sale pens, cattle crowded together and humped up in an effort to protect from the weather. Pretty nerve racking as sale time approached. We had to postpone the auction for an extra hour as the power folks came to work on the power lines and to allow traffic to start moving on the interstate. Remember now we were in South Carolina and had not even had a frost. Had we been in Montana, North Dakota or Minnesota, this would have been nothing, but we were in South Carolina with no lights, computers down, no DVAuction internet service and 300 head of cattle with no one in the sale pens.

No one could predict at 10:00 that morning what a great success this auction was about to unfold. What started as a potential disaster turned into a banner day with a record auction for the Yon Family. 1.7 million gross!
